i had an array of arrays and needed to find the key of an element by comparing actual reference. beware that even with strict equality (===) php will equate arrays via their elements recursively, not by a simple internal pointer check as with class objects. the === can be slow for massive arrays and also crash if they contain  if you search for numbers, in_array will convert any strings in your array to numbers, dropping any letters/characters, forcing a numberstonumbers comparison. so if you search for , it will say that 'abcd' is a match. example: <?php $test_array = array('test', 'abcd'); if (in_array(, $test_array)) { echo '  parameter, description. value, required. specifies the value to search for. array, required. specifies the array to search in. strict, optional. if this parameter is set to true, then this function will search for identical elements in the array. possible values: true; false default. when set to true, the number is not the same as
